Involved in several processes, including gamete generation; germline cell cycle switching, mitotic to meiotic cell cycle; and synaptonemal complex assembly. Located in cytoplasm and nucleus. Is expressed in meiotic germ cell of ovary; ovary; spermatocyte; and testis. Orthologous to human MEIOC (meiosis specific with coiled-coil domain).
