CAT encodes catalase, a key antioxidant enzyme in the bodies defense against oxidative stress. Catalase is a heme enzyme that is present in the peroxisome of nearly all aerobic cells. Catalase converts the reactive oxygen species hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen and thereby mitigates the toxic effects of hydrogen peroxide. Oxidative stress is hypothesized to play a role in the development of many chronic or late-onset diseases such as diabetes, asthma, Alzheimer's disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, and cancers. Polymorphisms in this gene have been associated with decreases in catalase activity but, to date, acatalasemia is the only disease known to be caused by this gene.
The Catalase Polyclonal Antibody is a highly specific and sensitive antibody that has been designed for use in various research applications. This antibody is produced by immunizing rabbits with a recombinant catalase protein and has been purified using a combination of protein A and protein G chromatography techniques. The Catalase Polyclonal Antibody is capable of detecting catalase protein in a variety of samples, including cell lysates, tissue homogenates, and serum. This antibody is suitable for use in Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA assays. The Catalase Polyclonal Antibody is a valuable tool for researchers studying oxidative stress, antioxidant defense mechanisms, and various diseases associated with catalase dysfunction. With its high specificity and sensitivity, this antibody is an essential component of any research project involving catalase protein analysis.
