Tween 20

Tween 20 is a detergent (surfactant) commonly added to buffers and reagents for immunohistochemistry. Its purpose is to decrease background staining and enhance reagent spreading in automated and manual procedures.

\nTween-20 is a non-ionic surfactant that is useful for solubilizing membrane proteins during isolation. Tween-20 is also added to buffers for immunohistochemistry. Tween-20 may also help to prevent non-specific antibody binding and function as a blocking agent in immunoblotting assays.
