Why Use Glycerol-Free Enzymes
for PCR and LAMP Reagent Development?

Glycerol is commonly used to stabilize molecular biology enzymes. For lyophilized PCR reagents, custom master mixes, and molecular diagnostic kit development, however, a glycerol-free formulation may provide greater control over the final reagent composition.

Many DNA polymerases, reverse transcriptases, and other molecular biology enzymes are supplied in buffers containing glycerol.

This is generally suitable for routine PCR workflows. But when developing a commercial master mix or lyophilized molecular diagnostic reagent, the formulation of the raw enzyme itself becomes an important consideration.

Glycerol-Free enzymes provide greater formulation flexibility.
They can be particularly useful when developing freeze-dryable PCR, RT-qPCR, LAMP, and other molecular diagnostic reagents.

Where Are Glycerol-Free Enzymes Useful?

Lyophilized PCR Reagents

Greater control over excipients and the final freeze-drying formulation.

Custom Master Mixes

Allows developers to optimize glycerol concentration as part of the complete formulation.

Molecular Diagnostics

Useful for PCR and RT-qPCR reagents designed for simplified storage and handling.

LAMP / RT-LAMP

Glycerol-free Bst polymerase and reverse transcriptase options are available for isothermal amplification.
