Polyclonal Sensitivity with Recombinant Precision

Multiclonal antibodies are defined mixtures of recombinant monoclonal antibodies, with each clone selected to recognize a distinct epitope on the same target. The result is broad, multi-epitope recognition combined with the reproducibility and consistency expected from recombinant antibodies.

What Is a Multiclonal Antibody?

Traditional polyclonal antibodies recognize multiple epitopes and can provide strong signal and high sensitivity. However, animal-derived antisera contain heterogeneous antibody populations that may vary between production lots.

A multiclonal antibody provides a controlled alternative. It combines multiple individually defined recombinant monoclonal antibodies, each recognizing a different epitope on the same antigen.

Because each clone is sequence-defined, the antibody mixture can be reproduced consistently while retaining the advantages of multi-epitope target recognition. This makes multiclonal antibodies particularly attractive for researchers who want both strong detection performance and improved long-term reproducibility.

Why Choose Multiclonal Antibodies?

01

Multi-Epitope Detection

Multiple recombinant antibodies recognize different epitopes on the target, supporting strong and reliable signal generation.

02

Consistent Performance

Sequence-defined recombinant clones provide excellent lot-to-lot consistency and support reproducible results across long-term research projects.

03

Animal-Free Development

Featured multiclonal secondary antibodies are generated using phage display technology without animal immunization.

04

Workflow Compatibility

Multiclonal antibodies can fit into common workflows including WB, ELISA, IF, ICC, IHC and flow cytometry.

Polyclonal vs. Monoclonal vs. Multiclonal

Multiclonal antibodies are designed to combine the broad epitope recognition commonly associated with polyclonal antibodies with the defined composition and consistency of recombinant monoclonal antibodies.

Feature Polyclonal Monoclonal Multiclonal
Epitope Recognition Multiple Single Multiple
Composition Defined No Yes Yes
Batch Consistency Variable High High
Long-Term Reproducibility Moderate High High
Multi-Epitope Signal Yes No Yes

Built for the Workflows You Already Use

Multi-epitope recognition can be especially useful when working with low-abundance targets or experimental conditions in which individual epitopes may be masked, altered or affected by protein denaturation.

By recognizing several epitopes rather than relying on a single binding site, multiclonal antibodies can offer additional robustness across different sample preparation and detection conditions.

Choosing the Right Conjugate

The appropriate conjugate depends primarily on your detection workflow.

HRP
A convenient option for chemiluminescent or colorimetric Western blot and ELISA workflows.
Alexa Fluor 488
Suitable for fluorescence-based imaging and flow cytometry applications requiring green fluorescence detection.
Alexa Fluor 555
A fluorescence option for imaging and multi-color detection workflows.
Unconjugated
Appropriate for researchers requiring custom labeling, conjugation, or specialized assay development.

Not Sure Which Antibody Fits Your Experiment?

Antibody selection often depends on more than the target alone. Primary antibody species, detection method, sample type, assay format and fluorescence requirements can all affect product selection.

Send Dana Bioscience your target, primary antibody species, application, preferred conjugate or catalog number, and we can help identify the appropriate multiclonal secondary antibody for your workflow.
