About Hantaan Virus
Hantaan virus belongs to the Hantaviridae family and is an enveloped, negative-sense, single-stranded RNA virus. Hantaviruses are associated with severe zoonotic diseases, including Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome and hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome.
The viral genome consists of three RNA segments: small (S), medium (M), and large (L). These segments encode three major proteins: Nucleocapsid protein N, Glycoprotein precursor GPC, which is cleaved into Gn and Gc, and RNA-dependent RNA polymerase L / RdRp.
Nucleocapsid Protein N
N protein is encoded by the S segment and is required for viral replication. Antibodies targeting N protein can arise rapidly after infection, making it an important biomarker candidate for infection-related research.
Glycoproteins Gn and Gc
Gn and Gc are involved in receptor binding, membrane fusion, and viral morphogenesis. Antibodies against Gn/Gc may show neutralizing activity, making these proteins key targets for vaccine and neutralizing antibody research.
RNA Polymerase L / RdRp
RdRp is responsible for replication and transcription of the viral RNA genome. It is the largest protein encoded by hantaviruses and is an important target for viral replication studies.
