Ferroptosis
Ferroptosis is a recently discovered form of programmed cell death that relies on ferrous iron ions and involves the high expression of unsaturated fatty acids on the cell membrane, leading to lipid peroxidation and membrane structure damage.Morphologically, the characteristics of ferroptosis include the shrinkage of mitochondria and an increase in membrane thickness. In terms of cellular components, it is manifested by increased lipid peroxidation and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, which can be induced by multiple signaling pathways. Research indicates that the key regulatory mechanisms of ferroptosis involve
the homeostasis control of redox and iron metabolism.
